Ryanair issues warning after thousands get caught out by a fake Facebook competition

Alan Loughnane

It has caught out a lot of people…

A huge amount of people are falling victim to yet another fake Facebook competition run by a bogus Facebook page called Ryan Air.

The page is in no way connected to the official, legitimate Ryanair Facebook page, but it has managed to fool 56,000 (at the time of writing) into thinking that it is a real competition.

The fake post states:

“BEAT THE JANUARY BLUES

We are giving away an ALL INCLUSIVE package holiday for up to 4 persons to almost any destination of your choice!

Your stay is for 10 nights and all drinks and meals catered for, all you have to do is relax!

And don’t worry about having to take time off work as you also choose when you go!

And if that’s not enough to shake the January blues, we’ll chuck in 5K to spend as you wish!

To be In with a chance you must LIKE OUR PAGE, SHARE THIS POST, AND COMMENT ‘WIN’ and we’ll announce our winner January 31st. Good Luck!”

It is an unofficial Facebook competition and in no way connected to Ryanair.

Speaking to JOE today, Ryanair said that they’re aware of the fake page and have contacted Facebook to have it closed.

“This is not an official Ryanair account or promotion and customers have been advised of this fact on our social media channels. Remember, if it doesn’t have the ‘blue tick’ verification, it’s not the official Ryanair account,” a Ryanair spokesperson said.
