Sadly, Michael D. Higgins did not buy everyone ice cream in Dún Laoghaire today

JOE

Some things are just too good to be true.

Yes President Higgins was in Dún Laoghaire and yes he was in Teddy’s ice cream shop but sadly, he did not purchase everyone 99 ice creams.

Michael D. Higgins was present to open the 200th anniversary of Dún Laoghaire harbour celebrations which included a Fly past and 21-gun salute among other events to mark the ‘special place’ of habour in Irish life.

However according to Yasmin Khan, a worker in Teddy’s ice cream shop in Dún Laoghaire, the President of Ireland did not open his pockets for the people.

Speaking to JOE, she explained that: “President Higgins did not pay for the ice cream, they were paid for by Dún Laoghaire harbour board but I’m sure President Higgins was one of the people behind the decision.”

Sometimes, the truth just has to get in the way of a good story.
