Talk about not living up to expectations.
Blackrock pier and diving board in Salthill is a landmark well known to Galway natives and regular visitors to the City of the Tribes and it proves particularly popular on rare days during the summer months when rain isn’t falling from the heavens in the west of Ireland.
When the tide is in, the sight of people diving from the pier is a regular one and if you happen to be there at the right time, you might just capture a brilliant, Tom Daley-esque, dismount from the boards.
JOE reader Aoife Gavin was sure she was about to encounter such a sight when she happened upon a man who went through “a few minutes” worth of elaborate preparation for a dive on Tuesday evening.
It’s fair to say the execution didn’t quite match the build-up, although to be fair, the level of entertainment probably exceeded Aoife’s expectations…
Stick to the cannonball next time, mate.
