The scariest things to do in Ireland this Halloween

Scariest things to do

Brought to you by Fanta

It’s not Halloween until you get the bejaysus scared out of yourself.

There really is something special about Halloween. The costumes, the sweets, the movies and songs all bring out our inner child.

That’s exactly what will happen should you visit these scary places. They’ll bring out your inner child by making you scream like an infant…

Scariest things to do

Huntington Castle – Co. Carlow

If you were to visit Huntington Castle at any other time of the year, you’d mostly just pay attention to the gorgeous grounds and various animals they have roaming the courtyard. Around Halloween though, you can explore its dark and terrifying history.

You’ll hear tales of murder and betrayal that would rival Game of Thrones, and the fact that you’re standing where it all happened really brings it home. While the castle gardens are lovely in the summer, it’s hard to appreciate their beauty in the dead of night as a madman chases you around the grounds with a chainsaw…

Farmaphobia – Co. Meath

Another one to go to if you fancy having some fella chase you around in the dark with a chainsaw. This time it’s in a cornfield though, so at least you’re mixing it up a bit.

New for this year is the “Evilution” experience, which pits you up against a demented scientist who wants to merge your DNA with that of an animal. Do you think this will still be open for you to take the family around Christmas time?

Zombiegeddon – Co. Kildare

That name tells you a lot about it really. Basically, you’ll get to live out The Walking Dead in a field in County Kildare.

So, it’s an opportunity for you to release your inner Rick Grimes. In case you get too excited by it all, we’re sure you’ll be delighted to hear these are (hopefully) real people in costumes and not actual zombies…

Scariest things to do

Wicklow Gaol – Co. Wicklow, obviously

It’s one of the most haunted buildings in Ireland, and it’s only right that the night tour is only open to adults. More for those who prefer the terror in the unknown, there has been no shortage of strange happenings in Wicklow’s historic gaol.

The jail’s history involves many awful tales of murder and death, and many people say the spirits of those people still reside within its walls…

The Nightmare Realm – Co. Dublin

The people of Dublin clearly can’t get enough of being chased around dark rooms by a variety of terrifying characters. Back for its third year running in the RDS, The Nightmare Realm looks set to be even more terrifying than ever before.

The theme for 2018 is “Witches Children,” so you can expect to find everything from Celtic Witches alongside their classic demonic clowns and twisted scientists. They say variety is the spice of life…

Being chased through dark corridors in haunted houses really makes you thirsty. Fanta is a proud sponsor of The Nightmare Realm. Be sure to check out Fanta’s exclusive Virtual Reality Experience as well! Terms & conditions apply.
