Rumours that vast amounts of these confectionary products are currently being distributed to University towns around Ireland have yet to be substantiated.

The mere mention of Buckfast, the tonic wine that has developed something of a cult following in Ireland amongst other places, is enough to have many Irish students salivating at the mouth.

Imagine how excited they would be then, to find out that a bakery in Scotland was recently selling cronuts (a recent confectionary phenomenon consisting of a cross between a croissant and a donut) with traces of the beverage affectionately known as ‘Bucky’.

Unfortunately for anyone looking to get their hands on the confectionary product, their existence already looks doomed as the bakery that sold an extremely limited amount of them is the subject of a licensing investigation.

According to The Scotsman, Patthead Bakery in New Cumnock, Ayreshire, sold approximately 30 cronuts with Buckfast added to the filling and a licensing investigation is currently underway after the cronuts were criticised by alcohol awareness groups in Scotland.

George McLatchie, director of Patthead Bakery, told The Scotsman that the authorities are making a mountain out of a molehill with the investigation, which is ‘catastrophic’ for business.

“In total, we sold 30 cronuts after sending 10 to each of our three shops,” McLatchie said.

“This has absolutely been blown out of proportion and now we have the licensing committee coming to question us about it. There was a small drizzle of Buckfast added to two litres of whipped cream.”

McLatchie would no doubt attract plenty of customers for his revolutionary products if he ever decided to up sticks and market his product on this side of the pond, but we should be so Bucky. *JOE goes to get coat*
