It seems that couples who post loving pictures on social media probably don’t even like each other

There you have it…

We all know a couple who are relentlessly affectionate on social media and this is only going to get worse with Valentine’s day just around the corner.

We can picture it now, standing with some gorgeous vista in the background, with life seeming as rosy as can be…

But according to sexologist Nikki Goldstein, who spoke to Mail Online: “It’s the people who post the most who are seeking validation for their relationship from other people on social media,” she said.

“The likes and comments can be so validating that when someone is really struggling, that’s where they get their up from – not the person making the gesture, but what other people will say about it.”

Goldstein went on to say that people are looking for validation by likes and comments rather than actually enjoying the moment with their partner. Messages containing possessive captions can indicate the person posting is trying to prove something.

“You see people who will focus so much on taking a ‘relfie’ – a relationship selfie – and getting the right filter and hashtags that they’re missing the moment.

“I think, why don’t you take a photo because it’s a nice memory and a moment you want to look back to?

“Couples are taking these photos, straight away putting them online and then watching the likes and comments instead of being with their partners,” she explained.
