World's longest flight

Would you be able to handle 19 hours on a plane?

Singapore Airlines will soon be using its newly-bought Airbus A350-900ULR to travel from Singapore to New York. Direct.

According to a press release published by the airline, journeys between Singapore and New York will begin on 11 October, covering a distance of around 9,000 nautical miles (16,700 km) in roughly 18 hours and 45 minutes.

The Airbus A350-900ULR (ULR stands for Ultra Long Range, by the way) is capable of flying for a full 20 hours with a full load of passengers. The flight from Singapore to New York will carry a total of 161 passengers — 67 in business class and 94 in premium economy class seats.

The Singapore to New York flight is set to break the record for world’s longest flight. That title is currently held by Qatar Airways, which flies from the Qatari capital to Doha to Auckland, New Zealand.

“This is a proud moment for both Singapore Airlines and Airbus, not only because we have again strengthened our partnership, but also because we have pushed the limits with this highly advanced new aircraft to extend long-range flying to new lengths,” said Goh Choon Phong, Singapore Airlines’ CEO.
