Six-packs of beer are getting a brand new design that’s extremely different and eco-friendly

Paul Moore

Those few cans are going to look very different.

Carlsberg….probably the most environmentally friendly brewer in the world.

Granted, that slogan doesn’t quite have the same ring to it as their other one but it’s perfectly apt because they’re leading the campaign to replace the traditional plastic packaging on beers with a new technology that reduces the use of plastic.

The Danish company have announced plans to introduce a new “Snap Pack” where cans are bonded together with glue.

Essentially, this means that the traditional plastic rings that hold the cans in place will be gone forever.

Carlsberg have said that the new packaging will reduce plastic waste globally by more than 1,200 tonnes a year — that’s the equivalent of 60 million plastic bags.

Aside from the dangers that increased plastic consumption and pollution poses on the environment, the plastic rings are also dangerous to wildlife – both aquatic and on land.

The “Snap Pack” will be introduced to the UK on September 10 in a number of Tesco stores and it’s set to debut in other European markets from late September.

Speaking about these changes, the CEO of Carlsberg Group, Cees ‘t Hart, has said:  “We are working hard to deliver on our ambitious sustainability agenda and to help tackle climate change. We look forward to giving our consumers better beer experiences with less environmental impact.”
