The latest Daniel Craig movie has officially become the highest grossing of all time in the UK. In just 40 days since its release, Skyfall has taken in an incredible £94,277,612 at the UK box office, making history and surpassing the record previously held by Avatar, which had a lifetime gross of £94,025, 632 during the 11 months it was on release in UK cinemas.

The 23rd Bond movie, Skyfall has proved the most successful in the longest running franchise in cinema history and is still on general release. Daniel Craig has played 007 three times and has signed on to play the role for two more movies.

Eon Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment announced the good news today. Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli were overwhelmed at the news. They said, “We are very proud of this film and thank everybody, especially Daniel Craig and Sam Mendes, who have contributed to its success.”

Skyfall shows a very different kind of Bond to previous movies in the Ian Fleming franchise. After a near-death accident, Bond is seen to derail, drinking and hiding out, making his character seem more human than before. He returns to MI6 when M is threatened by an eerie villain named Raoul Silva (Javier Bardem).

The movie’s release coincided with the 50th anniversary of the James Bond series, which began with Dr.No in 1962.
