“It’s more than poetry. It’s more than just words.”

If there’s one common talent in Ireland, it’s the “gift of the gab.” We’re natural storytellers, and some of us are born to share our gift with the world.

One such talented person is Róisín Whelan, a young up-and-coming artist trying to make a name for herself in the exciting Irish spoken word scene.

Spoken word is essentially a performance art, and a way to express yourself. This of course is something that takes a lot of confidence.

Confidence is a powerful thing. No matter how talented or successful we are, a lack of it can quickly make us feel like we’ve been knocked off our perch and make us doubt our ability.

To help Róisín get rid of any doubts she might have had about herself, we teamed up with Wrigley’s Extra to enlist the help of Melissa Ridge as her mentor. Melissa is going to show Róisín how to gain the confidence she needs to break into the spoken word scene and use it as a way to share her story the world.

We’ll be sharing more about Róisín’s story over the next few weeks, so keep an eye out to see her take to the stage for the first time.

If you can think of any creative young people who have overcome a lack of confidence, have a look at our #TimeToShine hub to be in with a chance of having them featured in a video and win €500 cash.

There’s confidence inside all of us and with Extra at your side, you can let that confidence out. Chewing gum helps refresh your mouth and your mind and bring out the best version of ourselves for the world to see. Time to Shine.
