5 steps towards having better hair

Having better hair

Back to your roots.

If it was always easy to have good hair, everyone would have it. If you’re willing to take the time to use the right tools and products, you’ll soon notice a huge difference in your luscious locks.

1. Visit your barber often

Don’t leave it until the last minute to get your haircut. Not only will it make life easier for your barber when they don’t have to start off your trim with a chainsaw, it’ll also be much easier for you to maintain a style that you’re happy with.

Depending on your hair’s style and length, a good rule of thumb is to get it cut every 3 weeks.

2. Keep a comb on you

Even if you put plenty of product in your hair first thing in the morning, chances are it’ll look like shite by the evening if left alone. It isn’t so much hassle if you’re just heading home to throw on a pair of tracksuits and watch TV, but another matter entirely if you’re heading out for a few drinks after work.

We can’t imagine you’d get away without a healthy dose of abuse if you brought a tub of hair gel to the local on a Thursday evening. A handy way around it is to keep a comb in your pocket, and simply run it under a tap before topping up your hair. Good as new.

3. Use quality shampoo

If the ingredients list on your shampoo reads like a Wi-Fi password, chances are you should avoid it. Keep to quality natural shampoo with Vitamin E and zinc, and your hair will thank you.

Also, don’t shampoo too often. Doing so will likely result in hair comparable to a Brillo pad.

4. Pat, don’t rub

Unless you’re intentionally looking to pull out your hair, be gentle when drying yourself with a towel. Roughly rubbing your hair with a towel will pull and stretch your hair’s fibres, as they get caught in the fabric of the towel.

Just repeatedly tap the towel onto your hair until you’ve gotten most of the water out. Once it’s no longer sopping wet, you can think about using a hair dryer to style it the way you want to.

5. Use a quality hair dryer

You can afford to go for cheap combs and brushes, but a good hair dryer is an essential investment in your hair. Firstly you need to be able to regulate its temperature, as air that is too hot will only damage your hair and burn your scalp. The Dyson Supersonic measures air temperature 20 times per second.

Sean Bryan, owner of Dublin barbers Cut & Sew says of the Dyson Supersonic; “it’s essential in my everyday use. Couldn’t recommend it more. As a professional hairstylist, it’s the best hairdryer I’ve ever used.”

“I always have my Supersonic at medium speed and medium heat for complete control. I get the hair 85% to 90% dry, apply a small amount of product and seal with the cool shot,” he says.

One good hair dryer will get you years of use. Unlike other hair dryers, Dyson’s hair care products like the Supersonic will protect your hair from extreme heat damage, whilst still giving you the control to style it however you want to.
