Study finds that sarcastic people are more creative

You don't say!

You don’t say!

If you consider yourself to be a sarcastic person then you’ll already know that it’s not a bad personal attribute to have because your low tolerance for hearing other people talk crap is actually a reflection on the people around you.

It’s not that you’ve got a short conversational fuse but rather a wonderful ability to not tolerate bulls**t.

Sarcasm

If this sounds like you then fear not because a recent survey has proven that being a smart arse actually means that you’re actually more creative than others. Geez, tell me something that I didn’t know.

Researchers at Harvard Business School asked participants in a study to engage in conversation wherein they had to speak in either sarcastic, sincere or neutral tones.

The results showed that people who spoke in, and comprehend sarcastic tones, were more likely to engage with the cognitive parts of their brain, basically meaning that they’re more creative. Well d’uh!

Researcher Francesca Gino said “to create or decode sarcasm, both the expressers and recipients of sarcasm need to overcome the contradiction (i.e., psychological distance) between the literal and actual meanings of the sarcastic expressions.

There you go, it seems that sarcasm is the highest form of wit and to this I say…worst research ever.
