Study: Forget the razor – she prefers a shadow

According to a new study, most women actually prefer a man with a bit of a shadow compared to a clean-cut look.

According to a new study, most women actually prefer a man with a bit of a shadow compared to a clean-cut look.

Getting up extra early to make sure your face is as smooth as a baby’s arse may be a waste of time as the fairer sex thinks stubble is sexy. According to psychologists at Northumbria University, women prefer a bit of stubble because it makes men look more attractive.

The study focused on 76 women aged between 18 and 44 who were shown 15 photos of men’s faces, with all of the images having varying levels of facial fluff. The women were asked to rank the men’s face fluff with different traits such as aggression, masculinity, maturity and attractiveness.

The level of facial hair most desired by women was a light shadow as a man sporting it was considered to be ‘the perfect partner’ (ever here your missus go on about George Clooney, Colin Farrell or Orlando Bloom?).

This comes as great news for those of us who are flying the ‘Mo’ flag this Movember. However, it’s best not to get too carried away. A full on face warmer was ranked as the most manly and aggressive looking but by far the least attractive.

The researchers believe that a 5 o’clock shadow gives women the best from both, as they get the looks of a manly beard without the aggressive look of a sex starved mountain man.

It’s also worth mentioning that those who clean-shave are more likely to get a promotion. Win some…
