Customers will be able to buy two bags for €1 at most SuperValu stores nationwide.
SuperValu has launched a new reusable bag for bagging loose produce such as fruit, veg and bakery products in its stores throughout Ireland.
The supermarket chain claims that the bags will keep food fresher for longer, that they are made of more breathable material that won’t sweat in a fridge and that they offer a more sustainable option for customers.
The bags, which are washable and certified food safe, will be available at a cost of two for €1 at designated points in most stores in Ireland.
The new bags, SuperValu says, is part of its mission to make packaging as sustainable as possible as part of a commitment to making 100% of SuperValu own-brand, fresh produce and in-store packaging recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2025.
SuperValu says it also committed to reducing its carbon footprint in Ireland and aims to be carbon neutral by 2050. The supermarket chain says it is committed to operating all facilities with 100% green electricity and to sending no recoverable waste to landfill.
Ray Kelly, Interim Managing Director, SuperValu said: “We are thrilled to roll out yet another sustainable initiative in stores around the country. SuperValu is working hard to offer our customers sustainable choices with continuous measures being introduced to meet this.”
