Survey reveals what Irish people think about ‘the stolen hour’ as clocks go forward

Carl Kinsella

Let’s be honest, many of us don’t exactly know why we end up losing an hour every now and then.

All we know is that we have to wake up an hour ‘earlier’ in order to get wherever we’re supposed to be, and spend the rest of that day feeling confused and wondering why it’s so tricky to change the time on your iPhone (that might just be us).

Orchard Thieves took to the streets of Dublin to gauge the nation’s feelings on Daylight Saving Time. It wasn’t good news for the early risers, with just over 50% saying that they’d rather not have to cut their night one hour shorter.

Young people in particular are annoyed by the change, with 71% complaining that they end up feeling tired the next day and 48% reporting that they get sick of aul’ ones talking about the ‘grand stretch in the evenings’ for weeks on end after the change.

Orchard Thieves have proposed a solution to the problem of the lost hour and will run events in as yet secret locations in Dublin, Galway and Cork this week. It’ll be called ‘The Bold Hour’, and if you sign up for info at denofthieves.ie – you could end up spending one night this week partying with some big and bold personalities rumoured to be in Ireland.
