Teacher names student “Most Likely To Become A Terrorist” during end-of-year awards ceremony

This might just be the most tone-deaf attempt at humour we’ve ever encountered.

A group of 13-year-olds in a Texas school were taking part in an end-of-year awards ceremony, when their teacher’s “joke” (we’re assuming/hoping) began.

Some of the students were given the title of “Most Likely To Become Homeless” or “Most Likely To Cry About Every Little Thing”.

One of the seventh-graders, Lizeth Villanueva, has not returned to class since the teacher bestowed upon her the title of “Most Likely To Become A Terrorist”.

Villanueva’s mother Ena Hernandez told The Washington Post: “I was upset and very mad when I saw the award. I was surprised because my daughter has been doing well in the honours program.”

The school in question has released a statement about the situation (via 12 News Now): “The Channelview ISD Administration would like to apologise for the insensitive and offensive fake mock awards that were given to students in a classroom.”

“Channelview ISD would like to assure all students, parents and community members that these award statements and ideals are not representative of the district’s vision, mission and educational goals for our students. The teachers involved in this matter have been disciplined according to district policy and the incident is still under investigation.”

We wonder if, as a child, that teacher received Most Likely To Be Fired In As Public A Manner As Possible.
