Described as an ‘overpriced tourist trap’, Temple Bar has taken a bit of a hammering from a popular website
Most tourists who come to Ireland have a list of things that they have been told are ‘must-see’ attractions, and there’s no doubt that 99% of them list Dublin’s Temple Bar. The selling point of the traditional pubs and live music and general craic is what lures people in, and a night out in the capital almost invariably ends up there at some stage.
However, it seems that The Huffington Post aren’t too impressed with it, listing it as one of their 10 Most Disappointing Destinations in the World, along with a few others such as Niagara Falls, Walt Disney World and Las Vegas.
They have described it as “a prime example of the rampant fleecing of drunken tourists that should be avoided at all costs”, and slam it as home to the “culture equals pub” stereotype where visitors to our isle simply end up getting ripped off rather than the authentic Irish experience they have come in search of.
To be fair, they do say that Dublin is great in general and simply to try and find another pub where the craic will be had at a cheaper price, if that’s what you’re after, but it’s still a pretty damning review of one of the city’s biggest tourist attractions.
