Over the past few weeks we’ve been showing you how to get your club involved in the fight against cancer and now that we have a committee set up and events organised it’s time to spread the word.

Getting the word out to as many people as possible is key to a successful event. There’s an old saying that goes, “it’s who you know, not what you know” so gets the lads in the club to dust off the old contacts book. You never know, your club’s senior players might know one or two high profile people willing to help your cause.

But don’t fret if you’re not on first name terms with Bono or Geldof. You can use your clubs online presence as a great way to let people know what events you have coming up. Make sure to spread the word on Facebook, Twitter and most importantly, your own club’s website. Why not try getting your cause in the local newspaper or on the radio?

The very best promotion is word of mouth so make sure that club members commit to spreading the word to friends and family. You might even know someone in the local shop who’s willing to put up a flyer or leaflet in the window.

The guys at the Irish Cancer Society will also help you out by providing you with press release templates and advice on how to get the most from your social media. For more information check out the Irish Cancer Society website
