The BIG Championship: Setting a main challenge and organising events

Over the past few weeks we’ve been bringing you some helpful tips on how to get your local club involved in the Irish Cancer Society’s new fundraising campaign for sports clubs, the Big Championship.

Over the past few weeks we’ve been bringing you some helpful tips on how to get your local club involved in the Irish Cancer Society’s new fundraising campaign for sports clubs, the Big Championship.  This week we’re going to give you some advice on setting up a challenge for your club.

Last week we talked about setting up a fund raising committee for your local club, so hopefully you’ve had the chance to talk to a few of your teammates and coaches since then. This week we’ll be taking a look at what to do once you’ve got your committee set up.

Setting the Challenge

In order to maximise the funds you raise for the Irish Cancer Society and for your own club, you’ll need to set up a FUN challenge for your team to compete in.

Choose an existing match, or invite another club team in for a friendly competition for your charity fundraiser. How about getting the senior players on board in a match against the juniors? Alternatively, you could invite members of the public to join your club offering a day of training for a small donation.

However, once the main event is all said and done you’ll want to keep patrons and players entertained with some fundraising activities. Choose a range of activities to take place around the match, for example: a post-match social event such as a dinner or BBQ, a raffle, auction or a talent show. Just make sure to be creative with your ideas.

The Irish Cancer Society can help by giving you sponsorship cards, collection buckets and information on setting up a dedicated My Charity page for online donations. They have everything you need to make your event a success!

Don’t forget to check back next week when we show you how to promote your event through social media and local networks.
