They love their tea out west.
Research by the Tesco Community Fund has revealed that tea is more popular in Connacht than any other province in Ireland.
A survey conducted this month shows that more than eight in every ten people in Connacht is a tea drinker (82%), compared to 78% in Ulster, 73% in Munster and 73% in Leinster counties outside of Dublin.
Hard as it might be to believe in a tea-loving nation such as ours, 35% of those surveyed in the capital confessed to being non-tea drinkers, easily the highest percentage of non-tea drinkers in the country.
Overall, seven out of ten Irish people (71%) are tea-drinkers, but people in Connacht drink the most tea per population head, with almost one-third of those surveyed in Connacht drinking up to five cups of tea a day.
The research was carried out ahead of Communi-Tea parties being held in Tesco’s 148 stores nationwide this Saturday, 17 September, to celebrate donating nearly €2 million to over 5,000 good causes through the Tesco Community Fund.
