The OlympHiggs: What it might look like if our President was competing in Rio

Justine Stafford

The OlympHiggs is a sport we would definitely watch…

Ah, the Olympics. So far Rio has brought plenty of memorable moments from the mystery of the weird hicky-like bruises on the bodies of many of the top athletes, to one of the finest interviews from Cork Olympians Gary and Paul O’Donovan.

Amidst all this however, have you ever wondered what it might look like if our President were to compete in the games?

Well, wonder no more.

It’s safe to say the OlympHiggs would be a fantastic sport to watch and President Michael D. Higgins would definitely have more golds than Michael Phelps if he ACTUALLY WANTED THEM.

We may have laughed a little too hard at these:

1. Diving

Just look at that form. The man is in his element and totally relaxed. Definite gold.

2. High Jump

Once again, totally chill here. Casually clearing the bar whilst cheekily smiling up at the Irish fans. Another gold in the bag for President Higgins.

3. Hurdles

Look how hard the American huddler is trying. Give it up buddy, best you can hope for is silver. Looks like President Higgins may have put on a Japanese bib by mistake here but not a bother, we’ll get that cleared up once he has the gold and it’ll be yet another round of Amhrán na Bhfiann.

4. Rhythmic Gymnastics

Simone Biles? ‘Simone who’ more like. AMIRITE?! President Higgins is the darling of the gymnastics world and a shoo-in for several more gold medals.

5. Gymnastics

Just laughing thinking about how he’s going to get all these gold medals into his hand luggage. Better book in another piece of carry-on for President Higgins.
