Steak, coffee and golf. What more could a man want this week?

28-day aged steaks by Aldi

Let’s face it, it is hard to beat a good steak. Nothing gives you that satisfied, satiated feeling quite like a perfectly cook bit of beef and the good folks at Aldi have some unbelievably good ones for sale right now.

To paraphrase another supermarket chain, these aren’t just any ordinary steaks, these are 28-day dry aged Irish Angus steaks, available in rib eye or striploin.

All sourced from Tipperary, they are 8oz steaks and they are cut extra thick for maximum enjoyment. JOE was lucky enough to try some at the 28byAldi pop up restaurant at Taste of Dublin at the weekend (see main pic) and they are mouth-wateringly good.

Easy to cook (check out our guide here) and ready in minutes, you really can’t go wrong with these and at €7.99 they are great value for the quality of the meat.

Robert Roberts Nespresso capsules

There has been a raft of Nespresso compatible coffee capsules launched in recent months and due to our chronic caffeine addiction, we’ve damn near tried them all. However, the Robert Roberts Coffee Capsules are the best of the bunch.

Launched last month, they were the first Irish company to get into the market and so far they have three types available, rated at intensity levels of 7, 9 and 10.

They have the rich, creamy taste you expect from a Nespresso coffee and best of all, they are much easier to get your hands on. Available in Dunnes Stores and many other independent shops around the country, it has never been easier to get your morning pick-me-up sorted.

The Irish Open at Fota Island Resort

Okay, now that we have fed you and given you a hit of coffee, it is time to get out and enjoy yourself and the place to be this weekend is Cork, for the Irish Open at Fota Island Resort.

After superb events in Portrush and Carton House, this year the European Tour is visiting the stunning Cork course for the first time in 12 years and with the forecast being ridiculously good right now, it has all the ingredients to be one of the sporting highlights of the summer.

For start there is the location (we went for a visit a few weeks ago and the place is incredible) and the par 71, 7,043 yard parkland course is set up for some brilliant action over the weekend.

The field is stellar too, with all the biggest names in Irish golf (Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell, Padraig Harrington, Shane Lowry, Darren Clarke and Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley) plus some in-form Europeans such as Victor Dubuisson, Alvaro Quiros and Steven Gallacher to name just three.

Add in the presence of John Daly and 2002 winner at Fota, Soren Hansen and all the ingredients are there for a superb day out in the Cork sunshine.

Concession prices still available for the full Irish Open 2014 tournament until 6.00pm on today, 17th June: €30 for an Adult Day Ticket (€35 at gate) and €70 for Adult Season Tickets (€80 at gate) so hurry, it’s your last chance to pick up an advance priced ticket and enjoy up to five days of unmissable, on-course action.
