The worst habits of Irish drivers have been revealed

Are you guilty of these?

Are you guilty of these?

Every person swears that they’re an excellent driver but a recent survey by the AA has revealed that quite a fair amount of Irish people have some bad habits when they’re behind the wheel.

7,500 people were surveyed and unsurprisingly it was texting, shaving and smoking while driving that came out on top as the worst habits to have as a motorist.

Here’s a closer look at some of the other no-no’s that Irish drivers indulge in. As always, take care when you’re behind the wheel.

Not signalling correctly when entering a roundabout

I’d guess that plenty of you will be tagging ‘that’ friend of yours who absolutely looses their s**t due to this. 35% of people surveyed said that this happens on a regular basis while only 2% have never seen this occur. What roads do they drive on?

Texting while driving

Over 25% of those surveyed said that they see motorists doing this on a daily basis. Tut-tut!

Not using a hands free device

45.10% of people have seen people holding their phone while driving. An alarming figure considering the availability of hands-free kits and bluetooth earpieces.

Your car may not be in motion but it’s still illegal and 37% of the people surveyed have witnessed this on a regular basis.

Smoking while driving

A craving for some smokes might cost you a few penalty points or god forbid much worse when you’re behind the wheel.

38% of people have seen motorists smoking on an e-cig every day, 17.15% notice this regularly.

Putting on make-up or shaving while driving

Now this one surprised me. I know that some people want to look their best at all times but maybe it’s best practice to tidy up your appearance when you’re not on the road.

21% of those surveyed feel that this is a regular occurrence on Irish roads.

Acting rude or aggressive on the road

The old reliable was bound to make an appearance on this list at some point and we all know somebody that’s prone to shouting a few expletives at other people on the road.

30% of the people surveyed said that they’ve seen some motorists loose the rag with regularity.
