Nice and subtle. Well played, theatre staff.
For his sold out gig at the Riverbank Theatre in Newbridge, County Kildare, much-loved comedian and sometime keyboard-player David O’Doherty used some tape on the black backdrop to spell out the word “HOPEFULLY” behind him.
The gig went on, the staff took some pictures (including one where it looks like O’Doherty is flung himself backwards in his chair), and everyone had a great time.
Then, when it came time for David to meet some of his fans, the staff at the theatre decided to apply some judicious editing to the wording behind him for the photo session that was about to come up.

Just like that, “HOPEFULLY” becomes “HOE” with very little effort, and further LOLz ensue.
And obviously, O’Doherty took the joke in his stride. We’re guessing. Unless he has some kind of grand revenge scheme up his sleeves.

The gauntlet is now thrown down for the staff at the venues for his upcoming gigs. According to his schedule, next up is The Spirit Store in Dundalk, followed by the Ulster Hall in Belfast. Your move…
But now that we think about, we do think we’ve figured out where they got the inspiration for this little wordplay prank.
Is this a sign? Watch the F!
