There’s a beer festival happening in Killarney next month. This is not a beer drill.

Rory Cashin

Running from 26 to 28 May, the Killarney Beerfest is a must-go destination for anyone who loves a good pint. Or half glass. Or however you measure it, really.

More than just an excuse to enjoy a tipple, the festival is also a way for Irish brewers to lay claim to having the best beer of the year.

Last year’s winners Kinnegar Brewing will be hoping to have a repeat of the success they had with Flying Saucer, while the likes of Trouble Brewery and White Hag Brewery will be hoping to gain a lead by working on the success established by their respective concoctions, Stakeout and Púca.

There are eight different categories for breweries to compete within, with the ultimate winner crowned as the Beoir Champion Beer of Ireland.

There will be over 20 craft beer producers and over 100 different craft beverages on offer over the weekend, and to keep the party going you can expect Irish folk band Rackhour Pilfer, trad heroes Beoga (who are fresh from collaborating with Ed Sheeran on his last album), as well as The Whileaways, The Small Hours, The Tom Cats, The Rising and a few DJs to keep the vibe going all night.

There’s also plenty of food stuff going on for soakage, and numerous over talks and events happening over the weekend. Head to the official website for all the details you could need.
