We think we’ve finally found Ireland’s oldest bag of Tayto

Alan Loughnane

Tayto Crisps

We haven’t seen an older bag…

Established back in 1954, Tayto crisps are well over half a century old and have long been a staple of a balanced diet* in Ireland.

*alternative fact

We’ve been sent a good few packets of Tayto down through the years and each of these senders claim that they are the one. The true finder of the oldest bag of Tayto. But few have a legitimate claim to the throne.

Like this one sent into us a couple of years ago, a bag of Tayto for the grand total of 12p, we weren’t sure at the time that it would ever be beaten.

We’ve heard whispers, rumours, grumblings even, that a packet of Tayto exists that once cost as little as 3p, but we’ve never seen evidence for this aside from some chatter in dark chatrooms on the internet.

But we do now have conclusive proof that a 4p bag of Tayto does exist and it was found recently during a clean out of an office in Dublin and sent into us Peter Kane.

Can you beat this? Let us know.

Cheers to Peter Kane for sending this our way. Got a story for JOE? Hit us up on Facebook or Twitter, send it to our WhatsApp number 087-4001102 or mail [email protected].
