Headphones are a wonderful invention because not only do they allow you to listen to your favourite tunes in peace, they also act as a deterrent to any unwelcome conversations that you might have when you’re out in public.
While we’re certain that you’re not a social hermit and do encourage chat, there are certain moments when nobody wants to be bothered. For example; making small-talk with a stranger at 7:30 am on the bus when you’re shattered will rarely be encouraged.
Still though, headphones in = world out.
We all know that this is a generally accepted rule, but an article from a website called The Modern Man entitled How To Talk To A Woman Who Is Wearing Headphones has taken a rather sinister and downright creepy stance on this, all in an effort to promote some macho posturing, incredibly odd, wannabe Pick-Up Artist bullshit.
The article offers “tips” and “advice” for men to get the attention of women who are wearing headphones, such as, “if a woman wearing headphones is single and hoping to meet a boyfriend (or even a new lover), she will almost always be happy to take off her headphones to give you an opportunity to create a spark with her”. Jaysus.
The following extract should really be entitled “here’s how to look like a creep in public”.
Things somehow get even worse after this imaginary conversation.
