This Derry café offered discounts to Americans not to vote for Donald Trump

Tony Cuddihy

One of the better gimmicks of the summer.

Derry’s Café Soul on Guildhall Street offered their American patrons a 10% discount this summer as long as they promised not to vote for Donald Trump in November’s US presidential election.

The owners of the café have a history of controversial, but clever, window displays and this one is the best of them all.

There’s no way anybody was missing this.

Many American tourists make their way to the North over the summer months, and Café Soul were hoping that their eye catching display would gain some sympathy.

They wrote on their official Facebook page, ‘The world is made enough, let’s not add to the problem,’ while owner Kiera Duddy told the Derry Journal that people were even getting their picture taken with the artwork.

Irish Central reports some abuse from Trump supporters – with one saying, ‘Keep your political nonsense to yourself. I would be shocked if you even stuck to this promise’ – but the reaction has been largely positive.
