Solo travel allows you to really take in the culture and beauty of a country without the influence of a companion to help shape your experience.
When travelling alone you are able to be completely self-indulgent, so if you want to spend all day getting lost in a museum you can do it. Or if you want to spend the entire day at a beach with a book and not talking to anyone, you can do that, too.
There's also getting completely lost in another country and their culture, and just how friendly the local population is will heavily influence how much you enjoy your time there.
People going on trips and holidays by themselves is very much on the rise in the last few years, but this top ten did turn up some interesting factoids.
For one, nine of the top ten countries are in Europe. For another, the UK came in 12th in the world, Japan is the highest entry for any Asian country at 19th, while the USA doesn't arrive until way further down, coming in at 46th.
In case you're wondering, the bottom five consists of: Poland, Morocco, Egypt, Kenya and Bolivia.
