Worth keeping in mind if you’re having a tipple over the Christmas.

A brand of wine known as Castel Frères, made by Castel, has been named as the largest still wine brand in the world by the IWSR, the leading supplier of data and market intelligence on the alcoholic drinks markets worldwide.

It is the second year in a row that Castel Frères ranks in first place in the list of the leading 100 wine brands in the world, with almost 25 million nine-litre cases being produced in 2016, a 3.1% reduction in volume compared to the year previous.

Franzia, made by The Wine Group, and Barefoot, by Ernest and Julio Gallo, ranked in second and third respectively, with the Concha y Toro range (which includes Casillero del Diablo, Frontera and Sunrise) and Félix Solís, originating in Chile and Spain respectively, making up the top five.

E & J Gallo had three brands in total in top ten, with five wine brands from the USA, two from France and one each from Chile, Spain and Australia also represented.
