“I suppose a ride’s out of the question?”
Iconic Dublin super-film The Snapper is currently getting the live-action treatment in The Gate Theatre, where an incredible cast is taking on the life of The Curley family in the wickedly funny Roddy Doyle tale.
Being performed right next door to the Rotunda Hospital (where Sharon’s baby is born) the play includes over 70 scenes of warm, frank and dark comedy which has been receiving rave reviews since it first opened.
The baby from the original film even went along!
With regards to the play’s cast, Simon Delaney plays Dessie and he’s joined by Hilda Fay, Kate Gilmore, Simon O’Gorman and Amilia Stewart.
The powers-that-be behind the show have also recently released a trailer, showcasing the best bits of the hottest show in town.

You can still book tickets to see one of Ireland’s great works on stage, which is set to run well into August, right here.
As well as that, the cast of the play, as well as Roddy Doyle himself, will be running a discussion panel in the Gate Theatre as part of their ‘The Late at The Gate’ series at the end of the month to talk all things Dessie, Sharon and Burgess.
The Late at the Gate initiative is a series of mini-productions, platforms and post-show discussions running in parallel with productions on stage.
After the curtain falls on The Snapper on Monday 30 July a post-show discussion will be held with Roddy Doyle and cast members Simon Delaney, Hilda Fay, Hazel Clifford and Simon O’Gorman. They’ll be talking all things Barrytown with Director of the Gate, Selina Cartmell.
Patrons attending the performance of The Snapper that evening can attend free-of-charge, with a limited number of €5 tickets are available for those who are not attending the performance that night. Audience members can submit their questions by tweeting #SnapperQuestions.
The post-performance chat is scheduled to go ahead at 10.20pm on Monday 30 July.
