This new “travel hacker” guide helps you find the absolute cheapest flights in the world

Rory Cashin

This is a must-read for anyone thinking of heading off on a break any time soon.

Unless you’re super-rich, then you’re probably well aware of spending almost as much time actually finding the cheapest flights as you do on the flight itself.

Hours and hours of trying to find the best deals, but a new “flight hacker” system set up by travel experts Kayak involves a huge amount of research, and breaking down the numbers to find the ‘hack’ within the system, which essentially means booking your two flights as two separate one-way flights, as opposed to one return flight.

As they describe it themselves: “Like ordering 2 appetizers instead of an entree, combining 2 one-way fares for a round-trip flight can sometimes be significantly more affordable than a traditional ticket. We call these options Hacker Fares.”

“[Before you] book a Hacker Fare, be sure to check pricing and availability for each flight before confirming your reservation.”

They have broken down the flights into two groups, the first being worldwide (not including the US), with flights getting as much as 16% cheaper.

Top ten worldwide:

Florence, Italy

Frankfurt, Germany

Bangkok, Thailand

Prague, Czech Republic

London, England

Tokyo, Japan

Edinburgh, Scotland

Munich, Germany

Barcelona, Spain

Manchester, England

And the second group is within the U.S., which does not mean flights into America, but should you already be inside the fifty states and looking to further your trip to another city, then these would constitute as two separate domestic flights within the country, ending up around 12% cheaper.

Top ten in the U.S.:

Colorado Springs, Colorado

Cincinnati, Ohio

San Antonio, Texas

Madison, Wisconsin

Ontario, California

Memphis, Tennesse

Miama, Florida

Omaha, Nebraska

Des Moines, Iowa

Mertyl Beach, South Carolina
