Tuesday saw one part of Ireland get the highest temperatures of 2018 so far

Drought warning

If you were in the west of the country, you probably got a bit more tanned/sunburned than the rest of us.

For anyone who was outside during the day, or even had a window that allowed them to see the outside world while they toiled away in work / school / college / etc., then you know that Tuesday 29 May was a spectacularly good day, weather-wise.

The majority of the country got what were essentially the highest temperatures of the year so far, but the west in particular got the best of it.

And one particularly area in the west got the best of the best…

26.3 degrees was actually hotter than the majority of the rest of Europe yesterday, just FYI.

Meanwhile, don’t discount today (Wednesday 30) on not immediately taking the crown, as the early estimates are ranging from 21 to 25 degrees nationwide, with the inland counties more liable to get the higher end.

The rest of the week is going let the heat taper off, but only slightly, and Met Eireann are still predicting some heavy thunderstorms before the weekend.

THURSDAY 31 MAY

Mist, fog and low cloud lifting on Thursday morning with sunny spells developing, some scattered showers also but many places will be dry, however some heavy showers could break out in western areas later in the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 18 to 22 or possibly 23 degrees Celsius in light breezes but moderate sea breezes in coastal fringes.

FRIDAY 1 JUNE AND SATURDAY 2 JUNE

Rather cloudy and misty on Friday, with further showers or rain at times, heavy and possibly thundery in places. But some hazy sunshine will come through in some places. Winds light to moderate easterly or variable. Highs of 18 to 21 degrees Celsius, best in the west and northwest of the country. Misty overnight with some fog in places and some further showers about also. Lowest temperatures 11 to 14 degrees Celsius.

SUNDAY 3 JUNE AND MONDAY 4 JUNE

Warm and close each day, with highs of 19 to 23 degrees Celsius, best values inland. Some hazy sunshine at times, but cloudy periods too, with some showers, a few heavy and possibly thundery. Winds light to moderate easterly or variable in direction. Humid at night with values staying in double figures.
