PICS: How Twitter reacted to the whole of Leaving Cert 2017

That was a fast few weeks, wasn't it?

JOE

Well, thank f*ck that’s over.

Leaving Cert exams are the stuff of nightmares, you spend the whole of 5th and 6th year learning off pointless information so that over a two-week period in June, you can then, regurgitate said information onto a sheet of paper.

The person who can reiterate the most knowledge they have learned over the two-year period is then recognised as being a smarter person than someone who can’t remember it.

Irish education logic.

First of all, congratulations on finishing the Leaving Cert exams. You have joined an elite club of Irish people who still have nightmares about forgetting to study for an exam for a subject they never even did.

Also, we must commend you on your determination in completing Maths, English, Irish and the like in the sweltering heat. Merciful hour, it can’t be fair to be stuck inside for days on end while the sun is beaming down.

With that being said, it is a bitter moment for those of us who were enjoying the sunshine. You know the rule, once the exams are over, the good weather is over too.

There are a few good things about doing the Leaving Cert.

You get to leave that poxy secondary school behind. You may have liked the teachers, you may have had loads of friends but you still couldn’t wait to walk out those gates for the last time.

Also, you’re starting a new chapter in your life. Whether you’re heading to college or not, you are now becoming an adult which is a very scary concept but it’s the start of a fantastic time filled with memories and craic. Welcome to the big, bad world.

And finally, now that it’s over, you will be able to look back and think you know what? That wasn’t so bad…

Ha, good one. Burn the books, burn the sraith pictuiri and burn the uniform.

This is how Twitter reacted to the Leaving Cert 2017.

English paper one was a darling of a paper and then they decided to put The Snapper on before English paper two. THE. SNAPPER. the greatest Irish movie of all time. Sure no one was going to do a tap of study that night.

Social media has become a massive influence on modern culture and even an Instagram star appeared in one of the Home Economics papers.

Now if gorgeous Instagram models appeared in every Leaving Cert Paper, it might entice people to start studying that bit more? I know I would have…

That double whammy of Geography and Maths Paper one seemed impossible at the time and it’s a day you do not want to remember but you will probably never forget

Was it as beautiful as Gigi Hadid, Ciara?

However, as beautiful and all as the Irish paper may have been, it did point out some of the terrible aspects of the world we are currently living in.

Biology shafted almost everybody. Not to worry though, remember if you found the exam hard, more than likely everyone else found the exam hard.

Don’t ever and I mean EVER, forget the basics. How many of you have strolled into the business exam (past students I’m talking to you too) and forgot the one essential item you needed?

As for History? Sure, that’s all in the past now…

Week two came and went and the end was nigh. You know that you’re heading towards the light when you see the likes of Latin, Classics and Japanese making their way to the forefront.

All the farming enthusiasts were out in force on the second last day of the Leaving Cert but even they couldn’t wait to take the bull by the horns and get this done once and for all.

Finally, Friday June 23, the date that signals the end of the Leaving Cert in 2017 for every single student. You’re probably out reading this somewhere with a can in your hand and my good friends, you deserve it.

Enjoy…
