Using your phone while watching TV is making you more stupid, according to new research

Uh-oh

Joe Harrington

We’re all guilty of doing this.

The television experience has changed dramatically in the last five years with viewers becoming more involved and more vocal during shows.

Twitter is great craic for big TV events and every Friday night for The Late Late Show.

All that live tweeting, checking Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and other apps on our phones is apparently making everyone more stupid.

Researchers at the University of Copenhagen found that using several devices at the same time is bad for your brain and could even lower your IQ.

The research also says that switching between different devices releases a hormone that breaks the brain down in the same way as being high on drugs.

The study got people to use their phone or tablet while watching a telly and then tested how many things they could think about at once.

Some people said they felt “productive and efficient,” but only half of them could actually remember what was on TV.

Maybe the people surveyed were just watching an especially bad episode of Fair City, am I right?
