Video: An oldie but a goodie, this might be the best J1 trip ever

After a huge reaction to J1 stories about Las Vegas and Ed Sheeran we have been inundated with material from the annual student sojourn to the States and this is one of the best we’ve seen yet.

Because an awful lot of Irish students who head to the States for the summer end up working in jobs that don’t exactly pay well and then spend most of their hard-earned cash having a good time, not everyone gets to hit the road and see as much of ‘Merica as they can while they’re there.

JOE reader Tom Skelly and three of his mates, David Lynch, Aaron Dowling, Paul O’Connor, did just that, however, and having bought a 1993 Chrysler Town & Country while in Chicago in the summer of 2010, they set off on 12,000 mile road trip that took in Chicago, Toronto, Indianapolis, San Francisco, Las Vegas, LA and San Diego and virtually every American landmark you can think of in between.

The lads recorded their trip in some style, taking it in turns to be captured catching an American football beside each well-known landmark in a different location before throwing it onto the next and they ended up selling the old girl (see her in the video below) in Tijuana at the end of the trip.

It’s probably a good thing for everyone’s sakes that they didn’t tell us everything that happened while in Tijuana but if you’re planning on heading Stateside next summer and haven’t formulated a plan yet, this might be the way to go.

Hat-tip to Tom Skelly for sending this one into us
