Video: Beautiful time lapse of Earth from the International Space Station

Now we have at least some idea of what it must have been like for Chris Hadfield… if he orbited the world at a ridiculous speed for only two and a half minutes that is.

If you happened to have seen the film ‘Gravity’ starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock that’s currently in cinemas, you’ll have had your breath taken away by some of the stunning visual images of earth, of space and of life – dramatised though it might have been – as an astronaut.

Chris Hadfield – an honorary Irishman if there ever was one – gave us all an exceptional insight into what it’s like for real while he was aboard the International Space Station (ISS) earlier this year and the beautiful time lapse above offers further insight into the spectacular views afforded to those who spend their time orbiting the earth.

Amongst the flashing lights, keep an eye out for the gorgeous green hue created by the Northern Lights around 2:05 into the video above; it’s probably the highlight of a clip that is as close to astronomy porn as you’re going to get.

Class.
