Who is this 4chan guy anyway?
As we all know now by this stage, a 4chan user has released a slew of intimate (nude) images belonging to celebrities, including everyone’s favourite actress Jennifer Lawrence, and it’s being widely referred to as ‘The Fappening.” The reports so far suggest the user collected the pictures from the cloud based systems the stars were using to automatically backup their phones.
CNN are a pretty reliable news service with excellent journalists but this piece on “The Fappening” was supposed to be a technical analysis of what happened but it just falls down when the two presenters clearly have no idea what they are talking about.
Firstly, they think 4chan is a person rather than a website and the so-called ‘expert’ they are consulting goes on a trail of hitting all of the IT buzzwords;
- system administrator – check
- hack- check
- app – check
- cloud based account – check
- encryption – check
- backed-up – check
He then goes on and gives the security equivalent of “Have you tried turning it on and off again?” The expert advice didn’t stop there, he advised people who use the word “password” as their password, put in a dollar sign instead of the ‘s’. I guess we know what Ke$ha’s pa$$word is…
Our own favourite part of the video is when the host admits she has trouble understanding the cloud system and the expert misinterprets what she is trying to say and blurts out,
” we have all done these things in front of cameras,”
