VIDEO: This Dublin dad was the victim of a cruel prank on his daughter’s wedding day

Tony Cuddihy

Some people can be very, very cruel.

When Richie Deevy’s daughter Aoife was getting married in Marbella during the summer, he was more concerned with finishing off his speech than making sure the suit he had ordered was all present and correct.

Imagine the man’s horror when he was about to leave the hotel to give his daughter away, and he realised that the suit trousers he had were several sizes too small.

The man’s face drops as he realises that he’s never going to fit into them.

“How the fuck did that happen?” he asks his wife, before proceeding to try them on one last time.

“They’re like nylons on me!”

Just as he’s about to give up all hope, the day is saved…

His son-in-law Kevin takes up the story: “As Irish fathers do on the day of the daughters weddings, Richie decided to make final touches to the speech rather than getting ready, knowing that all he had to do was grab a quick shower, throw on the fresh jocks and socks and grab the suit he had especially acquired from M&S.

“Last minute he decided to jump into the shower, pivot and dry off.

“He was under pressure to get dressed (three daughters and a wife you’d get used to being in the shower last). Bus outside, wedding party ready for road but after a nameless daughter (wearing white for the wedding) switched the suit pants for a pair from the country’s favourite Penney’s he came under pressure.”

We’d say this made a great speech, especially given the fact that Aoife was behind the whole thing.

The look of relief of his face at the end speaks volumes.

Thanks to Richie for being such a good sport and allowing us to publish this video, and to Kevin Moran for sending it our way.
