Kris Meeke takes off and lands almost 50 metres later.

The Fafe-Lameirinha stage in northern Portugal is one of the most famous in the sport of rallying, mainly because of one enormous crest, known as ‘Pedra’. Last weekend the Fafe Rally Sprint 2014 was held, which is based on the famous stage and it provides the perfect warm up for the full Rally Portugal, which starts on Thursday.

All the footage from the Fafe Rally Sprint is spectacular (check out winner Sebastien Ogier’s stage at the end of this piece) but the action at Pedra was the most dramatic.

And the most sensational of all was the way that Kris Meeke went over Pedra. The Dungannon man hit Pedra at tremendous speed and flew very high and very far. The uploader of the video estimates the car travelled 48 metres. We don’t know how exact that is, but it can’t be far off either.

Hat-tip to James Dart for the video
