Land Rover has revealed the world’s first ‘Transparent Bonnet Concept’, which gives the driver a ‘see-through’ augmented reality view of the terrain ahead.

Ahead of the New York International Auto Show next week, Land Rover has unveiled its new concept technology that makes the front of a 4×4 transparent… or so it would seem.

The ‘see through bonnet’ effect is achieved by using a wide-angle camera mounted on the car’s grille which projects video of the road ahead onto a heads up display on the windshield. It also provides driving information, such as speed and pitch, and the display also shows the position of the front wheels, which is pretty cool if you ask us.

Unfortunately, the technology is only in the concept stages and Land Rover hasn’t revealed any details about commercial availability (yet), but it’s definitely something we’d love to see on 4x4s in the future.
