Happy (almost) Halloween everyone.
It seems that some people are getting into the spooky spirit of the season in their own special splash-filled way, as an artist who works with outsized vegetables took to the Portsmouth port to pumkin paddle his way into the record books.
According to a report by the BBC, Dmitri Galitzine sourced two 600lb (270kg) and 800lb (360kg) squashes at the Mere Brow Giant Pumpkin Show and then attempted to set a new world record for the fastest 100m paddle in a pumpkin, crossing the line in a time of exactly two minutes.
You could say he was, ahem, smashing pumpkin records.
Guinness World Records said it had received notification of the attempt and, thankfully, the vehicular vegetable venture didn’t end in disaster, unlike this other recent World Record attempt.
Galitzine, who’s unique science-based technique involved “going in a relatively straight line,” was cheered on by bemused onlookers, one of whom commented, “I think he’s a bit crazy.”
“Why?” asked the BBC reporter.
“Because it’s a vegetable” she answered.
We couldn’t have put it better ourselves.
