VIDEO: This man spent 3 days busking across 15 Irish counties to raise money for the Samaritans

Adam McEvoy was a man on a mission.

When he had the opportunity to travel around Ireland – 15 counties in total over three days – performing his song ‘Find My Way’ in aid of the Samaritans, Adam McEvoy was not about to let the chance pass him by.

Adam is a 24-year-old Dublin-based musician who wrote ‘Find My Way’ as a way to communicate his struggles with depression and suicidal ideation.

Talking about the first call he put in to the Samaritans, he recalls: “When the chap answered the phone I remembered saying sorry about a dozen times. I felt so bad for calling this stranger and offloading on to them. But the voice came back saying that I needn’t apologise and that’s why Samaritans are here.

“So I just chatted, for about an hour I think and the one thing I will say about the conversation was after the call I didn’t feel like they fixed my problem or that it had gone away, but I felt more relaxed. This meant I would be able to sleep, I hadn’t slept properly for ages and this was a huge relief.”

When his dad, a man Adam describes as his “best friend,” became ill Adam found coping to be very tough, and says he was unable to communicate how he was feeling to his friends and family.

At that time, he sought solace once again in the Samaritans.

“It was so comforting to speak to someone who wasn’t biased,” he says.

“I love my family and friends, but I felt like they turn everything around back on to them and them talking about their experiences didn’t always help. It just made me feel so much more aware of all the issues everyone was facing and I felt a huge desire to just ‘fix’ everyone.

Recently, Adam has been able to feel more comfortable in his own skin and move into a better place.

This is the video he recorded during his whirlwind Irish tour…
