Video: People stealing homeless man’s $5,000 shoes will make you question your faith in humanity

All in the name of fashion...

Alan Loughnane

When the new limited edition Kanye West Yeezy trainers were released in February the red ‘kicks’, which cost €275 at the time, sold out in just 11 minutes.

It didn’t take long for ‘touts’ to start selling them on for outrageous prices and now they will cost a willing buyer just over €3,600 ($5,000). We know, it is a crazy amount to pay for a pair of shoes but this is the madness people indulge in.

But the real question that stems from this video is; what would you do if you saw these €3,600 shoes lying on the ground beside a sleeping homeless man?

Yousef Erakat decided to find out if people would go against their morals just so they could have the expensive pieces of footwear… the result is actually quite shocking.

The video makes for difficult viewing as one after another, the men take the shoes and reason that the homeless man would probably sell them for alcohol, or he stole them or some other pathetic reason. Frankly, it’s sickening to see.

There is one ray of light for humanity, however, as one passer-by prevented a man from taking the shoes and alerts the ‘sleeping homeless man’.

Faith in humanity restored… sort of.
