This racer might want to buy the lads at Radical’s safety department a round of drinks after he survived an intense high-speed crash at Spa-Francorchamps.

Not only was Marcello Marateotto, the driver of the smashed up #29 car, lucky to survive the crash during a Radical Euromasters race at Spa over the weekend, the spectators and the race officials sat in the hut below the stands were also incredibly lucky not to have been hit by the flying debris.

As Marateotto rounded the famous flat-out corner called Eau Rouge, his rear left wheel ruptured, sending chunks of rubber flying through his car’s fiberglass body like hot rocks through paper.

Thankfully, Marateotto survived the incident without any serious injuries and according to Radical’s blog, “the driver was taken to Verviers hospital as a precaution and released the next day.”
