Video: Spectacular timelapse of the night sky over the north of Scotland and Iceland

The four-minute video was two years in the making and it was well worth the wait.

Stargazers know that if you spend long enough looking up at the sky at night, you’re going to come across some breath-taking sights and one astronomy enthusiast spent two years collating some spectacular images captured from the north of Scotland and Iceland to make up the beautiful timelapse above.

Under the video on YouTube Maciej Winiarczyk writes that most of the footage was shot in Caithness in north of Scotland and only little bits were shot in Iceland and it’s almost hard to believe that something so breath-taking was captured from a vantage point that is so close to home.

If the footage alone wasn’t enough, the epic, Lord of the Rings style, soundtrack should draw you in and encourage you to perhaps do a little more star-gazing of your own in the future… on the nights when the clouds kindly bugger off, of course.
