Irish people knew about it for a long time, but the beauty of Skellig Michael off the coast of Kerry was showcased to the world of late when it appeared in Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.
It wasn’t just moviegoers that were impressed by Skellig Michael either; the cast themselves were blown away by a spot where they will be returning to for filming for the next instalment in the Star Wars series.
In a promotional video released by Tourism Ireland today, director JJ Abrams and cast members such as Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Daisy Ridley (Rey) wax lyrical about Skellig Michael, with Hamill describing it as “indescribably beautiful”.
Tourism Ireland commissioned Lucasfilm to create the short film above, which will be shared in 14 different markets to target Tourism Ireland’s digital audience of over 600 million people worldwide.
