Autonomous cars are all the rage in the motoring world as of late with big name companies like Google and Tesla currently working on driverless cars for use on public roads, but the lads at Audi have their eyes set on something much faster.

The autonomous RS7 Sportback, which has been lovingly named ‘Bobby’, is kitted out with steering, brakes, throttle and transmission that have been connected to a computer that uses radio signals, 3D imaging and GPS. This allows the car to navigate the racetrack at speeds up to 240 km/h without a driver behind the wheel.

Audi claims that the RS7 Sportback is “the worlds sportiest piloted driving concept” and we’d go as far as saying it’s easily the best looking of the bunch too. Bobby will be put to the test later this month at Hockenheim where the German automaker hopes it will set a 2:10 lap time.

More details of the autonomous RS7 Sportback are set to be released over the weekend, but until then, take a look at Bobby in action thanks to the lads at Motorsport Magazine.
