Well done to Alan Foran for planning this and to Amanda Lavery for saying yes…

Not everyone here in JOE Towers has decided to sign their life away, take the plunge get married just yet but we’ve been told that it’s the most nerve-racking thing that a man can do.

This didn’t faze JOE reader Alan Foran though because he may have just raised the bar for Irish lads getting engaged. Cheers for that by the way, Al.  Alan didn’t just go for a traditional engagement, he came up with a brilliantly organised proposal to his girlfriend Amanda Lavery that involves a flash mob, dancers and some lovely deceit in the Scotch Hall shopping centre in Drogheda.

The Dundalk man bought the ring three weeks ago and wanted to do something special for his engagement so he called in his band mates from Electric Avenue, the Drogheda brass and youth band, along with the wonderful dancers from Btown dance studios.

Alan managed to arrange for Amanda’s favourite Christmas song, Celine Dion’s cover of Holy Night, to be played on the tannoy system and then convinced her to stand by the Christmas tree.

What happens next is just class.

We especially like the small touch which involves a young girl giving Amanda a rose before her whole family makes a surprise appearance just to enjoy this special moment.

Amanda says that this was the best day of her life – apart from the birth of her children – while Alan told us that all the planning and preparation was definitely worth it as soon as Amanda said yes.

Fair play to all involved.
