VIDEO: Upsetting footage from Kerry shows dead whale washed up on shore

Alan Loughnane

A really sad sight…

Footage has emerged of a dead whale washed ashore in Kerry today.

The whale floated into the shore in Renard, near Cahersiveen in Kerry and was captured by Mike O’Neill and sent into us by Twitter user  earlier today.

According to Return of the Lynch, this is one of many whales washed up in south and west Kerry over the past number of days with one washed up in Valentia on Friday.

We can’t be sure what breed of whale it is, but judging by the white belly, our best guess is that it’s a minke whale.

Just last week a 28 foot long minke whale washed ashore on the rocks at Creevy Pier between Ballyshannon and Rossnowlagh in Donegal. It caused a stir in the community as stream of people came to view the dead mammal.
